I get the message "Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramwork\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location" when trying to install microsoft fix it RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to download Fix It at the microsoft page.  I am running Win XP sp3 on a 2003 HP Pavilion 550x. I recently had to reinstall/reboot the software.  I was able to upgrade to sp3 and now have IE8 installed. My add-ons are causing my computer to lock up, so I am trying to run Fix It.

When I try to install Fix It I get the following message:

"Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramwork\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location"

Any suggestions on how to properly set the registry key are welcome.

    Thanks
