  • Question

  • I have found a virus on my computer entitled win32/adware.virtumonde and win32/privacyremover.m64.  I found installed on my computer AntivirXP08 and i did not install it.  This happened yesterday.  Whenever I run avast antivirus it shuts off at a certain point and goes to a blue screen, not sure what all it says, but then I have to shut off the computer and start again.  It won't let me remove this program in add or remove programs either.  I also tried to restore the system and the only day that is is giving me is today.  Can you help me?

I am not very computer saavy so I hope there is someone out there that can explain to me what to do in laymans terms?

  • That's not a virus, it's a rogue security application and it's malware/spyware that you want to remove.  If you are using Windows Live OneCare and you have been infected, but OneCare did not detect or cannot remove the malware, please contact support to report this and for help with removal.

Neither of the two "infections" you've referred to is known to Microsoft by that name.

This forum is for support of the Windows Live OneCare subscription application.  This is not a general malware support forum, and the reason that the HTTP site doesn't work for you is that you don't appear to be a OneCare subscriber.  Please refer to my previous post and to the actions you may choose to take if you're not subscribed to OneCare.
