Folders sync greyed out RRS feed

  • Question

  • The folder on the desktop is light blue (not dark blue) not a shortcut and the sync options are greyed out as to which folder it to be synced.

HELP? Nothing seems to correct this, am I missing something obvious?

  • ah, so original machine -> synchs mesh -> synchs others, but if you change a favourite (file) on one of the others it won't sync back to the master?

When you say "it goes not further than the desktop" do you mean that you can see the updated favourites on the deskop, but they don't go into the list or they are actually not appearing to be synched back into the cloud and from there to other computers?

If you mean that the files are going into a "favourites" (or whatever) folder on your desktop, but are not actually populating your account Favourites then what you'll need to do is as follows:

    1. find your favourites folder on the secondary machines - if you're using IE then it'll be under:

        Windows XP: c:\documents and settings\<your username>\Favorites
        Vista: c:\users\<your username>\Favorites

Other browsers will have other locations / files

    2. remove the cloud (original) favorites folder from your device (it's easiest this way)
    3. Click on the favorites folder in the folders list, to get it to sync again. When it asks you where to put the folder, paste in the path from (1)
    4. It'll ask you if you want to merge the two folders - indicate that this is what you want (WARNING! make sure you have a backup of both, in a non-mesh synched area in case things go funny)

Repeating the above for all clients should sync the favourites folder between machines.

  • Hi Rich,

What happens if you double-click the folder?  A sync dialog box should pop up allowing you to sync that folder to the device.  If that's not happening, could you describe the situation in more detail please?

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • When the folder is double clicked it opens and displays the contents. The light blue folder on the desktop syncs with the cloud but NOT the folder that it is supposed to sync with on this computer.

Folder -> Right click -> live mesh options -> change sync settings -> This folder is being synchronized with this device in the following location.  Name:  (item in box greyed out) Location: (item in box greyed out). Items in the boxes are correct, just greyed out.

  • It sounds as though you are trying to change the location of a synced folder on your local machine (after it's already finished syncing). Unfortunately the location boxes are greyed out because this can not currently be changed.

The best way to change the location is to remove the folder from sync (via the interface that you mentioned), move or rename the folder and then resync to that location (if the files do not change, and there aren't too many of them, then it shouldn't have to resync everything for you).

  • No, but thanks on how to do that.

I'm trying to sync my favorites over several machines. The machine that created the folder is feeding the cloud changes and yes, a folder appeared on the other machines. This folder is synced, but it goes no further. The favorites folder on the other machines is NOT syncing to the on the desktop. This is true of other folders as well. The syncing goes no further than the desktop on the other machines. How do you get the folder on the desktop on the second machine to populate the favorites folder on that machine and vis versa?
