transfering office 2007 to netbook RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just purchased an hp netbook I already have Office Home and Student 2007 installed on my sony vaio but want to install it on my netbook that does not have a disk drive. I do have a plugable hard drive, is there any way I can use the hard drive to install Office Home and Student 2007 onto my netbook or somehow use the disk drive in my existing computer or do I have to source a plug in disk drive? To install it from the original disk?

  • Hello bigdavejb,

This part of the Other Data section of the report tells us that you have a retail license for Office Home and Student 2007.

The full retail license for Office Home and Student 2007 allows the product to be installed and activated simultaneously on up to three computers when the computers are used by members of the same household for noncommerical purposes.

The easiest way to get Office Home and Student 2007 onto your new netbook is to download the Office Home and Student 2007 trial from the Microsoft site below:

    http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/product.aspx?sku=3082920

When it asks for a Product Key, simply enter the product key that you used to install and activate Office H&S 2007 on your Sony.  Because this downloadable trial is also a retail license, it will happily accept the retail product key you already have.

A word of caution:  Microsoft is within a week or so of rolling out a new version of Office, Office 2010.  As a result, they will be removing Office 2007 downloads from the Microsoft site shortly after the retail release of Office 2010.  I would recommend that you place the Office H&S 2007 Trial download file that you will download to the netbook in a safe place for future use, if needed.
