Win 7 Restore shows on Flash Drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • This is a strange one. WHS has worked great for a very long time. I upgraded Vista to Win 7 Ultimate several weeks ago. Now, if I try to retore the C drive, it only shows my flash drive as a distination. Advanced shows no drives at all. Only the CDROM and the Flash Drive.

Anyone want to take a shot at this? I'm stumped.

    Thanks.

  • Have you tried reconfiguring backups for the PC in question?
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Did you use disk cloning software to migrate your computer to a larger hard drive?

    Hi Ken -

Nope. Just popped in the Win7 Ultimate disk and did an upgrade over Vista instead of a clean install. Looking at the backups on WHS, all the volumes are in place so it seems to be a problem with restore seeing the existing drives on the PC. I'm using the latest (11/09) restore CD.

Thanks for taking a shot at it.

  • Thanks. The fix turned out to be simple. I had the flash plugged in when I booted to the Restore CD. Win 7 Ultimate apparently doesn't like that. Refreshing the drivers on the flash and then not plugging it in until requested for the driver scan made everything okay again.

    Appreciate your help.
