  • The common cause for these mismatches is a faulty Intel Rapid Storage Tech driver

Download and install the latest version from....

     http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

    you want this one:  iata_enu.exe

reboot then run another MGADiag report and post the results.

  • Did that and ran the report, no more file mismatches or tampered files but still couldn't update (sorry, dont have a copy of the report). Got impatient and started running a reinstall upgrade..... thanks for getting back to me, will see if this does the trick.

  • The reinstall/upgrade seems to have worked. Here is the most recent log....... still shows a couple mismatched files? Thanks for looking again.

  • I suspect that the problem was that the files were present, but not registered - the reinstall has fixed this, and the system looks fine now.

You should clear the remaining minor error by validating at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate using Internet Explorer.

  • Oops something is not right, just got this email from user...

When I arrived this morning the Windows 7 product key dialog box was open.
    Since I don't have it I had
to close the box to do anything. Then the screen appeared to begin the
    Windows program but then
blacked out and stayed black completely except for the mouse pointer. I had
to shut down with the power button
because Ctrl-Alt-Delete had no effect. In DOS mode the monitor indicated
that Windows did not close properly and I had
the option to start Windows in the normal fashion which I did. Now my
desktop shows that I am operating a
copy of Windows 7 with a "Build 7601" description and I'm getting a new
pop-up that says I may be operating
counterfeit software. Also I am down to one functioning monitor. The smaller
one only shows that I am operating
a copy of Windows 7 in the lowers right corner .

I will post the diag output again when I get a chance.

  • When I went to Validate it takes me to a screen to purchase.

    Here is new log.

Will it work to purchase as that would be cheaper and faster than mucking around?

  • Is the user in the habit of using Registry tweaks and cleaners/optimisers?

The Default Key is now in use, which usually means that the registry Key containing the Product Key has been tampered with.

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

  • It says my key is invalid when I tried to activate on line.

So I called in to activate and the guy said there is a problem and go to the website www.microsoft.com/howtotell/default.aspx and hung up.

Not sure what the user might have done. He's not confessing to anything. Is possible he 'tried' something though.

If I buy a new key do you think that would fix it? Hate to do it, but they are loosing hours on a CAD system.

  •  0xC004F050 usually means that you've misread a character - either C/G/6 or B/8 or Y/V are the most common, an O/0 is almost always a Q

    Note that the following characters cannot be used - A E I L N O S U Z 1 0 - so don't bother trying unless you like the noise it makes :)

It's unlikely that a new Key will work if the current one is failing - there seems to be some instability in the system (possibly simple PEBCAK) which needs to be identified and controlled.

  • Thanks Noel. I think it might have been a PEBCAK. I am just going to go in and reformat/install. Maybe Microsoft blocked the product key as they said there was a problem when I called in and then they sent me to the site to purchase (again!).

  • The Key ending PW487 is blocked by design - it's the one used when no other is available, such as when one is not entered during installation.

The Key ending KW6VX (from the COA sticker) was valid (or it wouldn't have activated) - and should still be valid for activation.

Did the operator confirm the Key in use (and the one on the COA sticker), or did they just ask for the installation ID code from the activation wizard??

  • They just wanted the installation ID, when I offered the COA sticker thats when the call ended and I was sent to the purchase web site. I guess I need to get installation ID and call back and see if the real key is good or if I can get a replacement key perhaps?

  • Yes - it may be that the installation ID was still using the Default Key.

You should try changing the Key using the SLUI 3 procedure, and then use telephone activation.
