Purchase of new 3-license Windows Live OneCare RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased a new 3-license OneCare; uninstalled the expired version [per instructions while installing new one]; installed the new one and was told to follow instructions to activate upon rebooting.  However, upon rebooting, my computer came up with my previous e-mail/ID name.  The instruction book told me I would be asked for the Product Key, and although I followed the instructions using that prior name, I was never asked for my Product Key.  Therefore, Microsoft/Windows thinks I renewed an already expired subscription.  How can I fix this and activate the new one?  Can anyone help?  Will this take a lifetime, or just long enough to have to buy another new one because this will expire in March of '09???!!!

    Thank you.

  • You did not need to uninstall/reinstall. You simply needed to renew with the retail key.

Now that you reinstalled, by activating with the same LiveID, the new install inherited the subscription status of the existing subscription and you were not prompted for payment or a retail PIN/Key.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare.

Alternatively, uninstall OneCare once more and use a *different* LiveID to activate with the new key.
