laptop desktop connecting RRS feed

  • Question

  • where do I post this question please?????????

I have a laptop with windows XP.  and a desktop with windows XP. I want to connect the two and exchange files.
How can I do this with either USB connector (prefered choice) or ethernet connectors??

I'm told both is possible. A friend of mine used a usb cable and connected his laptop to my desktop instantly. Both pc's showed the other as an extra hard drive under my computer. I plug my laptop in via same cable and nothing comes up??? However his pc was running vista.

    Can anyone help please??

  • Hello,

Thank you for your post , I would suggest Connecting Your Laptop with Desktop with Ethernet connector, For that you need a Cross cable and Put the IP address on both system from same class like Put Ip address for Laptop as 192.168.1.1 and for desktop 192.168.1.2 and by connecting Your laptop with cross cable with desktop you can access the desktop from laptop by following procedure Go to Start then run type \\192.168.1.2 it will ask for user ID and password provide the ID and password now you are able to access this computer If you wanted to access D drive put commant as \\192.168.1.2/D$ like this .

    Hope this help.
