Request to MOE failed with status code 409 colflict looking up the resource

Question
-
I keep getting this error and there is no indication that tells me what might be wrong. I looked in the help file of error codes and it is not listed.
Could not synchronize folder in Live Mesh. Request to MOE failed with status code 409 Conflict looking up the resource
So, what is an MOE? What resource is it trying to look up.
Very frustrating. I'm testing this product so see if it will do the job. So far I'm not impressed with the documentation.Monday, January 25, 2010 1:33 AM

Morning All,
I was able to resolve this issue on my end. I uninstalled Mesh on the problem computer and removed it from website. Then emptied the folders I wanted to sync and rebooted. Finally I re-installed Mesh, added the folders to sync, and any files I had moved out. Hope this helps!!

MOE is the Mesh Operating Environment.
Could you provide more information on what you are doing when this error is encountered?
How many machines in your Mesh?
What operating systems?
How many folders are you setting up to Sync? What are they and what size and number of files?
Have a look at this older thread for this error: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/LiveMesh/thread/6b771004-e139-44c1-9714-e1b3e4b32d62

Steve,
Here is what I have setup:
Machine A, Compaq 8510p laptop, Vista Ultimate, 2GB RAM, 100GB HD.
Machine B, HP 4990, Vista Home Premium, 3GB RAM, 300GB HD
Machine C, HP Mini, Win 7 Starter, 1GB RAM, 14GB HD
All computers are set to sync with the mesh. I am currently just syncing 6 folders from machine A to C. As I write this I see one folder is empty on Machine C but has 17MB in it on Machine A. My purpose in looking at MESH is to sync files between the laptop and the Mini so I can grab either an go knowing I have up to date files.
I noticed today that the MESH site does not say it supports Win 7. Maybe that is the issue. I am building test folders to work with and validate the functionality of the product before I commit real data to it.
When I first sync a folder it appears on the desktop of the destination and I have to drag it to the docs folder. Today I created a test folder and it never did show up on the Mini but the MESH desktop told me it had synced and all was up to date.
At the moment I have a test folder I deleted off B and C, removed it from the desktop on the web, but the origin computer A errors when I try to delete it. Could not stop synchronizing Folder with one or more devices in your mesh. Request to MOE failed with status code 404. Server could not find the specified resource.
404 is not in the help file error codes.
I was expecting better performance from the product and am getting frustrated with trying to understand it. When it error out without good indication of the problem it is more hassle. But I need it so will try for a bit longer then look elsewhere. I really like the remote control capability.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

A few things:
1. Windows 7 is supported, the installer for Vista works fine.
2. You don't drag the offered folders from the Desktop to a new location - that often breaks the sync relationship.
I suggest starting over. Go to the Live Desktop and change the properties for all of your folders to *not* sync with any of the PCs except the source machine - the one where you right clicked the folder and said "add to Mesh"
Once you do this, the blue Mesh folder on the other 2 machines will change to normal Windows folders - yellow in color.
Now, back to the Live Desktop and change the properties of the folders to sync with one of the two other machines.
As long as the machine is signed on, you will now get the light blue folders on your Desktop of that machine. Double click (or single click if you changed your Explorer settings to single click) each folder.
Double clicking when it is faded light blue folder, brings you to a windows titled:
Synchronize folder
The text at the top of the window says "Synchronize folder with this computer."
The name cannot be changed/
The location is the path to your desktop folder.
Next to this is browse.
At the bottom of the Window is OK and Cancel.
OK accepts the default offered location - your desktop.
If you click OK, it will become a darker blue folder (still light blue) and it is now fixed to your desktop.
If you click Browse, you can navigate to a folder of your choosing.
Once you have reached that folder, click OK and accept the warning about merging with an existing folder and potential for conflicts.
Repeat for each folder.
Repeat the above steps for the 3rd PC.
I believe that the above will resolve your issue, which was caused by the dragging of the destination folder to a new path. Yes, I know that it seems rather convoluted and I hope that they make the ability to move Mesh folders around much easier. Right now, once they are "locked in" you can't move them without risking the breaking of the Sync relationship.
If that doesn't resolve the problem, you may need to go a step further and remove the devices from the Mesh and uninstall/reinstall the Live Mesh client and then setting up the folders as above.

I'll add that you don't simply delete folders off of the PCs in the Mesh once they are Mesh folders. You need to first change the sync properties for each folder on the Live Desktop.

Steve,
Thank you for the detailed answer. I have yet to find an explanation of how to set up MESH as good as this one.
I tried to change the sync on the Live Desktop. I told it not to sync with the mimi which worked fine. I selected don't sync with the Live Desktop and that doesn't work. I select never and when I go back to look it is set to sync with the live desktop again. I hope this isn't required because I have about 30GB I want to sync to the Mini from the laptop.
Also, after I told it not to sync the files with the Mini, nothing happened on the Mini. It tells me it is online on the Mini and the Devices on Live Mesh tell me it is synchronized and this device is up to date. So, now I am confused again.
When I can, I intent to take the Mini and the laptop off Live Mesh, uninstall the software from the computer, reinstall the software and add them back into Live Mesh. Then see if it works.
Is there a way to force a sync event so I know it is in sync or does Live Mesh just sync on its own time?
Thanks again, I will let you know what happens after all this.
Continued success,
LarryWednesday, January 27, 2010 7:02 PM -
Hi, Larry.
Sometimes it takes a while for the status to update on each PC in the Mesh when you change the sync settings. And sometimes it requires you to reboot that PC and reconnect to Live Mesh for it to get the notification that something changed.
The wrinkle that you introduced is that you are only doing P2P sync and you moved the end point folders.
So, yes, a complete uninstall, remove devices from the Mesh, then install and set things back up again should resolve it for you. You can then configure to only do P2P sync and not sync a folder with the Live Desktop.
Note that even via P2P only, 30 gigs will probably take a fairly long time to sync. You cannot "force" a sync, it takes its own sweet time to transfer the data. ;-)
Last note - be sure to have a backup of that 30 gigs in a location not in the Mesh. It is a beta and data loss can happen, although it is rare.

Steve,
Here is an update.
1. In uninstalled MESH from all PCs
2. Rebooted each PC
3. Installed MESH from a new downloaded exe file
4. Added each to the Mesh.
5. Created 3 Mesh test folders with files, sub directories
6. set each test folder to sync from the laptop to the mini and the tower
7. the files show up on both the mini and tower desktop in light blue
8. then I followed these instructions you sent earlier.
9. when I double click on one of the light blue folders a file explorer window opens showing me the content of the folder. No place to select anything and it is not titled "Synchronize folder"
10 I right click and the same window opens as if I right click a standard folder in file explorer.
Nothing opens a window for me to select where I want the folder placed.
Additionally, I select each folder to sync only with the other computers. If I look at the sync options on the Live Desktop test folders they are all set to sync with the desktop and the other computers. If I look at the sync options on in the original location where it set them up to sync they are as originally set up. They only show as sync with live desktop on the live desktop.
So, now I am really confused. If this had worked as your instructions stated then I would be pleased. So far, Live Mesh has not behaved as stated anywhere.
Your thoughts would be appreciated. I really want the functionality and am about ready to try other software. I gave up on Syncables 360 before I found Live Mesh. Not sure what I would try next. Two out of Two not working isn't very good odds.
Continued success,

Hi, Larry.
If you are not getting the dialog to decide where to sync the offered folders to, then that means you need to repeat the process of the uninstall, but with the addition of also removing all of the devices from the Mesh at http://www.mesh.com and then adding them back in by installing the client on each device.
What is apparently happening, even with the reinstall, is that the configuration or profile for each machine remains with the uninstall. So, once you reinstall, all that happens is that the folders you previously accepted as belonging on the desktop simply re-appear. By removing the PCs from the Mesh, the PC is "new" to Mesh and the offered folders will be empty shortcuts as opposed to actual folders.
You should see a very different appearance of the folder. When it is in a state that means you have not yet accepted the offered folder and can select the end point location, it is faded light blue. It is a brighter, solid color blue when it becomes a real Mesh folder in that location.

Steve,
I guess I was not clear in what I did. I uninstalled Mesh and removed all the computers from Live Mesh online. Then reinstalled software on each and put them back in the Mesh. So, that was not the issue.
Also, all the folders I am testing are new folders created just for this test so there would not have been any settings stored anywhere about these folders.
Any further ideas appreciated.
Continued success,

Hey guys,
I'm also running into this error on my 32 bit Win7 PC. What can I do to help troubleshoot?Sunday, January 31, 2010 12:56 AM -
All,
I have been trying to make this work for a week now and no joy. I'm about ready to drop it and try another solution. There are a number of free solutions out there that seem to work (as least the reviews indicate they work). I'll see what Steve comes back with next but, unless it works I"m out of here.
I'm surprised MS would bring a product to Beta that doesn't work any better than this. From my perspective it doesn't work at all. More like alpha software in my opinion. PureSync, Allway Sync and GoodSync get high ratings, have a free trial and depending on your status and need may be free for life. I went with MS because I thought they would have the best product, but now I don't think so.

Hi, Larry.
I seem to be sounding like a broken record this evening...
Strange - is my response to this and at least one other thread this evening.
The error typically means that something got moved and Live Mesh can't find it. Based on your description, that isn't the case.
So, the best I can suggest is to file a bug report:How to Submit Bugs and Live Mesh Logs
Note that you may not receive a response to the bug report, though. It will be transferred to the internal system to be assigned to the appropriate development group.
For the record, I use GoodSync exetnsively (for data not in my Mesh folders) and it is a great program for P2P sync on a local LAN.
Let's hope that the new Live Mesh client that we've been waiting ages for will resolve some of these quirks.

Glad to read that the "hit it with a hammer" solution worked for you Brendan.
I think that Larry indicated that he had already tried that without success, but it isn't clear if he also deleted all folders from the PC and Live Desktop to start fresh along with the device removal and uninstall of the client.

I did not delete the folders from the PC. That simply seems like too much work to get a program to do what it should do. I'm moving on to a different solution. 1 1/2 weeks is enough to invest without success.

I agree with you, Larry.
Do keep an ear open for the next release of Live Mesh. I'm hoping that it is much improved, but I've not seen it yet, either.
