Best exam for .NET fundamentals RRS feed

  • Question

  • One of our developers has some basic experience of c# application development and I want him to develop his skills - and in particular obtain a solid grounding in the fundamental of .NET - by studying towards an exam. We were looking at Exam 70-536 which seemed ideal, but it this is being retired in July 2013.

I've read that 70-536 isn't being replaced which is a shame, so I was wondering what would be the best alternative for learning the fundamentals of .NET?

98-372 looks like a possible alternative, but there are no training materials available. Does anyone know of any books / e-learning courses suitable for studying towards this exam?

Or are there Exam's that we could consider.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • You may wish to consider exam 70-483: Programming in C#.

If you take a look at the Skills Measured:

you will see that it covers a lot of .Net topics, such as types (reference and value), Reflection, object disposal, string manipulation, encryption, assemblies, security, data access...

  • Thanks. This looks like a good option apart from the fact that there's no learning material. The book has not been released yet. Any idea when it will be release or if there is any other material available for self-paced learning?

  • According to Amazon:

    • Paperback: 425 pages
    • Publisher: Microsoft Press (April 22, 2013)
    • Language: English
    • ISBN-10: 0735676828
    • ISBN-13: 978-0735676824

I'm taking the 70-536 around the 8th of Jan2013.  70-536 exam expires at the end of July 2013.  I hope to get in the 70-562 (ASP 3.5) before the end of July as well..

I hope the above book will be more accurate than the current "2nd" of the 70-536.
