  • Dear Gordigor5,

Thank you for your interest in the Buy Local program, however it appears that you are not eligible as you did not purchase your machine from a system builder, as stated in your diagnostic report:

    Windows License Type: Retail

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or comments.

    Thanks!

    Chell

  • On that URL at the bottom of the page it also says:

    * After mail-in rebate, S&H / taxes apply. Limited time offer. While supplies last. Other restrictions apply.
+ PC must be purchased with qualifying software from eligible US PC builder (see: localpcbuilder.com/eligible)
Limit one bonus pack per PC system purchase. Individual suppliers are solely responsible for offers and order/rebate fulfillment.

If you go to the FAQ page, there is more information...

How do I get a BONUS PACK

To get your BONUS PACK, you must:

    •  Purchase a PC pre-installed with one of the following genuine Windows Vista operating systems or 2007 Microsoft Office systems with one of the part numbers listed here:

I agree that the text near the top is misleading, but the requirement that the software be pre-installed is also very clearly stated.

  • On your Vista promotion offer page: http://promotions.newegg.com/microsoft/bonuspack/index.html it clearly states: "Purchase Windows Vista from Newegg.com and install it on your PC and get these great hardware items FREE"

This is exactly what I did, and also appears to be what alot of other customers are doing. We deserve an explanation to this promotion. Either honor the promotion as worded, or remove the promotion. That is the exceptable answer. Which will be Microsoft's position?

  • So was I suppose to buy the OS from Newegg.com then give it to a local pc builder, or was I suppose to buy a system from Newegg(they don't sell systems).

How exactly was I, as your customer, to complete this offer?

How misleading can it be? Which instruction were we to trust with this offer? The one that said buy Vista from NewEgg (it was there site), or go somewhere else and buy?

Again, I ask, How is Microsoft going to remedy this problem?

  • Hi Gordigor5,

We are going to need to talk with you about your specific issue, but it would be cumbersome to do so over the Forum.

Would you please go to https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?c1=509&gprid=9860 and create a Support Incident. Afterward, post the Incident Number here in this thread. We will then contact you directly.

    Thank you,
    Chell

  • Hi Gordigor5,

That's the same *** they told me. I created a support incident and nothing was done. After a few days I again asked why no response and I was told they forwarded the problem to someone higher up the corp. ladder, but after a few more days I still haven't heard anything. It pretty much looks like a scam to drum up more Vista sales!

  • it seems to me that the conditions set forth at the top of the web page totally contradict what it says at the bottom. I made my purchase from newegg thinking that I would be eligible for the bonus. I did everythig it said at the top of that page. In fact i purchased all the parts and built a new system and installed vista and then revisited the site to redeem only to find that I had been duped. I agree that the ad should be removed or altered because there is no way to "buy vista and install and buy a system from a qualifying pcbuilder with the qualifying software" unless you want 2 systems with vista and only one qualifying.

  • Well it's been a week since I was told there would be someone from Microsoft's Marketing team contacting me and so far I haven't heard a thing! Don't hold your breath!!! I am going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
