I may have a drive that failed (even though I have difficulty verifying this) and at the time, my server became inaccessible and had to be rebooted. I spent a few days trying to fix follow-up issues like storage space not showing up. I noticed in the past my Windows desktop would also hang whenever a drive starts dying.
Just curious if it's normal for WHS or other server solutions to lose functionality when a drive has problems. Is there a way to improve stability?
It depends on the failure symptoms and cause, what's on that drive, etc. but yes, it's pretty common for a failed drive to cause this sort of issue. Servers are not normally left in operation for extended periods with a failed drive (and to be honest a home computer shouldn't be either), so it's not really a factor.I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
