Short answer - they were all developed seperately by three different teams. Plus, only one of them (Skydrive) is an actual released product/service - the other two are in beta.

Work is currently underway to unify them into a single service. Watch this space.

  • "Work is currently underway to unify them into a single service"

That scares me. There are so many unfixed bugs and unfulfilled suggestions in Live Mesh currently that I don't see how Microsoft can hope to unify these services soon. I wish they could! Live Mesh Mobile, for example, has been unusable for so many now since the last update. I posted a bug report with documentation and logs on Connent back in May and received no reply. Regards, Neil

  • Hi, Neil. Well, with work being underway, as we believe, but don't have confirmation of, that would seem to indicate that resources would be pooled to work on one unified service where they were completely disparate teams handling the parts before. I would also imagine that it is a major effort to combine these things. I understand the frustration with the current state of Live Mesh with no movement in months. Let's hope that we see something soon.
