Can't see courses and I can only publish to CSV format on Windows 2008 x64 RRS feed

  • Question

  • To explore LCDS I started adding in an outline for a 1 day course I am working on.  The first thing I noticed is that the "courses" folder was not created in "c:\program files(x86)\microsoft\learning\lcdsc\" . I could save the course I was working on and open it back up. Also the path displayed was the path above but there was no folder in that location (odd... eh).

When I attempt to publish my course I am only given the option of the CSV format.

I thought I needed to install some features (Win 2008) on my system. So I installed the Dot Net 3.0 feature which installed the application server role (and I noticed this installed the XPS viewer).

I then thought maybe the LCDS system installs and configures itself based upon the system configuration so I uninstalled LCDS and then I re-installed it.

Same result - I can open my previously saved course (the open path says it is in the courses folder but I can't see it) but I can only publish to the CSV format.

It looks like a pretty cool tool and I would like to get over these little humps. Any help would be appreciated.

  • I can see why it would be confusing.  The tool offers only "Media Map" via it's publishing menu.  But there are two other ways to publish a course.

You can prepare your files to be used in an LMS or distribute it as a stand alone course.

For information, please refer to the LCDS Help File.  In the Contents section of Help see Publishing and Distributing for detailed instructions.

  •  How about that. I read c:\ProgramData as c:\Program Files..... Whoops.  So I found my courses. I now have to figure out how to publish them.

Maybe for a test I will copy the course folder to another computer and double click on the wrapper.htm file and see if it opens.
