Connecting to SIP provider - how ;) RRS feed

  • Question

  • No, not as easy a question as it seems.

It looks to me like R2 still only supports SIP trunking in the way that there is nearly no authentication between both parties. I.e. you either trust the other side (authentication by IP etc.), or use TLS and a certificate.

We have been so far using 3cx with a specific provider.

Besides trying to charge me an arm and a leg for the switch to a SIP trunk (which means we will not do that) he also informed me that the only way for him to authenticate is with username and password, which, it seems the OCS infrastructure does not support.

I can imagine quite some people will run into this problem. So, what is a decent solution for this? Any software (preferably SOFT - not hardware) around that can be used for doingthe SIP translation for this?

  • NetTecture,

If you can hold off for a few weeks we are nearing the release of a product that will enable this exact functionality.  Not only will you be able to connect with any ITSP, you will also have the ability to register and route to/from multiple ITSPs (if you so desire) and use standard SIP phones with OCS.  As an example, our OCS environment is currently connected with Junction Networks and Voicepulse.  If you keep an eye on my blog we'll announce things like beta programs and releases there.  I'll also post on the forums since it seems many people here are looking for this capability.

  • Well, I can wait a handfull of weeks (i.e. possibly up to 5, but then thiungs get a little - well - urgent).

I hope you get out with a Beta in the next week or two ;) Would rock ;)

Question - does your software replace the mediation server, or is it still needed?

  • Sure.  Send a note to smartsip at evangelyze dot net to apply for the beta list.  Please include information about your user count, OCS version and architecture, ITSP, and any other relevant information.  Beta invitations will be going out no later than the week of March 2.

  • I'm not a fan of how Exchange locks down DLs from outside senders by default.  Sorry for the inconvenience - please resend.
