Coping to WHS Video Share Folder- 2gig limit? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm seeing strange transfer speeds with files over 2gb.

    My WHS is configured with over 4TB and about 60% free - folder duplication off.  I use the system to serve video to several NMT devices ( aka Popcornhour- IstarHD). When I transfer files to my WHS video share thru my Gigabit lan I notice a drastic slow down in transfer rate as soon as 2 gb have been transfered. The file tsf may even stop for a min or two then resume? My system disk is 750gb so it can't be filling up prior to coping the file to the other 7 disks. The same slow down can be seen with transfers from 2 different vista systems. There is no delay copying F R O M  WHS. Initial tsf speed is >50mb/sec which can slow to <7mb/sec ! after hitting the 2 gig point.

    Does anyone else see this?  If not why can this be happening?

    Thanks in advance;

  • This Issue has been reslolved in PowerPack 1 (Beta). There is no longer a slowdown or 2 gb "wall" when copying directly to shares. Congradulations to the WHS team for fixing this severe problem.

    My configuration for the record...

    Tysan Tank TA26 (B5397)  (Tempest i5400PW(S5397) MB

     Xeon Socket 771 Quad core  @ 2.5    X1

    4GB Ram  (Uses recognizes 3GB)

    8 SATA Drives  4.78 TB  (7 drives configured in SAS )

    Gigabit Lan

  • Could be multiple issues. Please search the forum for slow transfer speed gigabit and for example find Slow transfer speed when copying large files to WHS.

    Please note that WHS itself will also slow down copying due the drive extender migrator process which moves the files from the landing zone (D partition) to the storage location(s) (Please read Drive Extender for some background info on WHS storage)

  • My transfer speeds are very fast up until 2 gigs are transfered. I get over 60mb/sec until I hit the 2gig point. Again my primary drive is 750gb so its not a size problem. What is happining at the 2gig point?

    Perhaps it's filling up ram first...?
