Cannot Display data from new entity that copy from system enity RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear All,

I want to add "subject" entity in Opportunity Form, i already browsed and they said it cant make relationship directly to "subject" entity, so i created new entity then make it same like "subject" entity by copied the subject entity table to new entity table. this the step :

    1. I created new entity let said "tests" entity

    2. From database, i rename "tests" entity table became "tests1"(for backup) than copy subject entity table (the structure and data) to tests entity table (new table) so its same with subject entity.

    3. I make many to one relationship from "Opportunity" entity to "test" entity with Referential, Restrict Delete type  than display the relationship on opportunity form.

The problem is the data "test" entity doesn't show up, does anyone face this problem ?

    Thanks

    best regards,

    Anyan

  • Direct manipulation of the database in such a manner is highly unsupported, Anyan.  The CRM is dynamically extensible via metadata, so it's not surprising that merely copying the subject entity's base table was insufficient to successfully mimic that entity.

It's unlikely that others will have had to circumvent the issues you're facing, unless they went down the same, unsupported, path.  You'd be better advised to use the standard entity modelling functionality available via the Customisation interface.

  • Dear Pogo69,

What u mean use the standard entity modeling functionality ? the subject entity is the system entity so it can't make relationship directly to any entity. so i'm try to make a duplicated a "subject" entity

    thanks

  • Hi anyan,
"subject" entity is "customizable" entity. You can make any type of relationship directly with that entity. You don't need to do above stuff.

  • Create a custom entity which will be similar to Subject by Using MS CRM web Client Settings-->Customization -->Customization. Don't use database to create new entity.

User has to do all the changes using CRM clients.

  • If you trying to create a N:1 relationship from opportunity to subject.

    Settings-->Customization -->Customization---Opportunity---N:1 Relationship..new.

This is possible. I can send you a screen shot if you want.

    I hope it helps.

  • It should be there. Usually entity's display name will be shown in the "primary"/"related" entity picklist. It may happens that the display name of the "subject" entity has been changed in your implementation. To make sure that, verify the display name of the "subject" entity once.

  • We can create a N:1 relationship from Opportunity to Subject in CRM 4.0.

However I see you images are from CRM 3.0 where it is not possible to create N:1 relationship between Opportunity & Subject

    Check this :

According to Microsoft this can't be done, so I created a new entity to mirror the subject entity and set up an ETL job to keep it up to date.  I'm able to create a lookup to my new entiry.  Because the subject has a hierarchy and a normal CRM lookup woudln't give me the tree structure that's in the subject search, I built the subject parent levels into each row of my new entity as category levels, and I show these on the lookup screen.  It's not as nifty as the normal subject lookup, but it's better than making users cut and paste subjects from cases.

  • 1. You can't create N:1 relationship with Subject

    2. You have created custom entity which is similar to Subject. You need to create relationship between Opportunity & Custom entity.

--> Did you use CRM form Customization to create entities? Did you Publish Customization?

  • Yes Amol i create in CRM form Customization and i published too, and This is my step to create entity and made the relationship :

    1. I create new entity (named :"test" entity)  in CRM Form Customization.

    2. To make the test entity similar to subject, i copy the structure and the data from subject entity to test entity in sqlserver enterprise manager

    3. I created relationship between opportunity & test entity and it succeed

    Relationship Test to Opportunity

    4. I add test entity in opportunity form then publish it

    5. when i see the opportunity form and click the test lookup view there's no data.

    test1 lookup view

  • I am not sure how you added data for Test Entity.

Now everything looks perfect expect you don't have "Create" & "Write" permission on this entity.

Set the "Create" & "Write" permission to user Role which you are using from following link...

    Settings-->Administrator-->Security Roles-->"Select Your Role Here"-->"Go Custom Entity Tab"-->Select "Create & Write" permission

  • Hi Amol,

  • I like you posting images here.. It help in understanding the problem clearly.I mean "create & write" = 1. Create Permission, 2. Write Permission. You are good as per  as permission concerned.

Now go to "Settings-->Customization-->Customize Entities-->Tests---> Information" you would see section "Areas to Display Entity", select Workplace and check if entity appears in "Workplace".

Select entity and on right navigation grid you would see "New" button to create "Tests" entity record. That would appear in your lookup view

  • Unfortunately it is not possible using out of the box CRM features. You might need to develop some custom functionality but it will be tough.
