Bash on Ubuntu on Windows - Insider RRS feed

  • Question

  •  So I was pointed in this direction to come ask the MSDN support team about my issue. So what I want to do is get Bash working on my Windows Insider Preview, but when I type in bash on my command prompt, it says that the command is not recognizable.

I have connected my Insider email to my current Insider Preview and I also have Developer Mode selected. I also have done the latest update so I have no more updates to do.

How can I obtain bash on Ubuntu on Windows?

  • Hello,

The MSDN, TechNet and Expression Library Feedback forum is to "Help improve the Library Experience in MSDN, TechNet and Expression by providing feedback on features, bugs, look and feel or by just providing suggestions". This is not a support forum.

As it's off-topic here, I am moving the question to the Where is the forum for... forum.

  • Hello,

I'd ask in one of the Windows 10 IT Pro forums.

  • The linux subsystem is a beta feature so support is limited.  Microsoft did recommend a method of reahing the team that is developing it which is here

First, this is the first time we’re releasing this technology – it’s marked as beta for a reason: We know that there are some rough edges and that some things will break! Do not expect every Bash script and tool that you run will work perfectly – there will be gaps. But by trying out this feature, you’ll help us figure out what we need to work on in order to greatly improve our reliability, coverage, and reach.
