Installing WHS on a 64 bit PC? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been testing the trial version of WHS on a 32 bit computer and have noted a couple of hardware issues unrelated to WHS.  I would like to upgrade the motherboard and am looking at a 64 bit set-up with an i3 core.  Will the 32bit OEM version of WHS install?  Any problems/issues I should know about?  I'm assuming everything I do on the machine will be 32 bits until the OS is updated sometime in the future.  Thanks in advance!

  • Should not be a problem.
As long as you can find proper 32-bit drivers for your hardware suporting Windows Server 2003 (most importantly chipset, NIC, SATA drivers, ...)
In some cases you can try drivers for Windows XP.

As with all OEM installations, make sure the system is rock-stable before trusting you data to it?
