Update on error 0xC004D401 part II RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Darin

Sorry I could find no way to reply to my last thread.

The answer looks great. I would like to uninstall musicmatch juke box but I find that when I go into control panel the folder is completely empty in both the views fo I cannot uninstall. I will try the checks you have recommended later today but this proble with the control panel looks to be a show-stopper to fixing it.

    Rob

I have managed to uninstall music match jukebox and that removed the 2007 09 27 line from the TS error line but in its place was 200709281424.

I followed the procedure to locate the updates and the list is below. I am confused that the same updates seem to have been done more than once. I am also confused that the problem seems to have come from a Microsoft or HP update

    Installed programs

27/09/2007 Generic volume shadow copy 6.0.6000.16386 driver install.

    Skype 3.5 3.5.239 Config change

26/09/2007 Update for windows Vista (KB933928)

25/09/2007 Update for windows Vista (KB933928)

Generic volume shadow copy 6.0.6000.16386 driver install.

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 7.15.10.9759 driver install.

24/09/2007 Generic volume shadow copy 6.0.6000.16386 driver install.

    23/09/2007 & 22/09/2007 nothing

It seems as if the culprit may have been one of your own software updates.

    Thanks

    Rob

  • Hi Rob,

"I tried to start the WGA service request but it rejected my Product identification number."

I am unsure what you mean. I just went thru the process of creating a Service Request (so I could provide you the below steps) and did not see where it asked for a Product Identification.

The link that I sent you to, should have a button that says "Start E-mail Request". Once you click that button, it will then ask if the 'Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage (All Languages) problem is on the computer that you are using now or not'. Select the answer that best fits and then click "Continue" .

On the next page, it will explain how to Download the Data Collection ActiveX Control".  Follow the directions to install and once done, you should be sent to the next page automaticly. (if you have any problems with the install, there is a "continue without installing" link at the bottom).

On the next page, enter the requested information (name, email, so on). As well as a description of the issue and then select your operating system from the dropdown menu at the bottom of the page. then click the "Continue" button.

The last page you will see, is the Confirmation page and you will see a Confirmation Number. Record that number and post it in your forum thread. (you will also receive an email with the same information).

    Thank you,

  • Hi Rob,

I have some additional troubleshooting steps, but they require a copy of a specific file from your computer. So, what I would like you to do is create a free WGA Service Request here http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029. Once you create the request, you will be given a Confirmation Number. Post that Confirmation Number in this post and I will look up the service request and use your email address (that you used to open the Service Request) to contact you directly and give you the steps to copy that file and send it to me.

  • Hi Darin

I tried to start the WGA service request but it rejected my Product identification number.

I am having problems accessing my control panel in anything other then safe mode. When trying to access any of my users within Vista I am getting a Windows software protection error an unauthorized change was made to windows, the screen around it is black and if I learn more offline, close or click the X to close I am returned to the screen giving me the choice between the various users I have set up on my pc.

I do not know where to go from here it is getting pretty frustrating.

Just to add to the confusion the results from MGAdiag have changed:

I think that your computer has a number of cookies set that change the sequence of web pages.

Before I get to the page with "Start e-mail request" I am requested to enter:
    1) My location                 Hong Kong -English
    2) My version of Vista      Vista Home Basic

The sequence of screens then continues as described until the ActiveX has been installed.
I am then requested to provide my Product Identification Number. I allow the ActiveX to run and find that my Product Identification Number is incorrect.
I then manually input the product key that I have in my norebook and that was rejected as well.

Sorry that I am unable to complete the transaction.

  • Hi Darin

Apologies that I did not get back to you yesterday but I had problems with the internet.

Here are the steps I have been through. I kept them in a Wordprocessing file while I tried to create the call

    WGA service request processing

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029.

This takes me in to a request screen to ask what version of Vista I am running http://support.microsoft.com/select/default.aspx?target=assistance&ln=en-hk&c1=509

    answer: Windows Vista Home Basic

next screen http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&ln=en-hk&c1=509&gprid=11731& and requested Start E-mail request (an icon)

https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?enty=pid&prid=10295&med=online&gprid=436647&trl=so&ln=en-hk&c1=509&as=1 this requests me to provide product id.

    The screen shows the following

    Provide product ID

Microsoft is committed to your privacy. See the Privacy Statement for more information.

To determine if no-charge support is available, provide the product identification number.

    Type the product identification number.

How to find your product identification number?

    Did you know

You may have other support available for your Microsoft product through your computer manufacturer.(View Contact information)

The icons at the bottom of the screen show "Back" "Continue" or "Skip to payment".

I do not get an explanation to download the data Collection ActiveX control. I think I downloaded that the last time.

A continue from here does not allow me to proceed. Sorry I have no way forward.

    Thanks

    Rob

  •

Gah I am in the damn same predicament and wonder if it is from one of their updates as well. I have only just reinstalled vista on this pC and it was validated. Now I am getting the same thing. Can't even see where to find out which programme it was. Am feeling rather frustrated now.

  • what is even more frustrating is the time it takes for the moderators to respond when they had been responding quickly

Gow on earth do you change the status of one of these to a question?

  • I have tried to get an E-mail support agin but I could not it still fails and will not allow me to get past the point where I have to input the Product ID. Is there another way to send the file to you? Put it on a web site somewhere so you can pick it up?

    Thanks
