SyncToy 2.0 good. Live Mesh Bad. RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I spent too much time reading this forum trying to get Live Mesh to work. I am removing it from my computers. MS would have done better to use SyncToy to synchronize folders.

I don't understand why the Live Mesh couldn't be made to syncrhonize between any two folders like SyncToy.  I didn't like having to have the synched folders on my lap top. When I moved the synched folder to my My Documemts folder the folders wouldnt synchronize.  I don't understand why I can't have a preview like SyncToy.  I don't know why I can't have control of when it syncs like I do with SyncToy.  The  Live Mesh people should have used the SyncToy 2.0 technology

  • Sorry. Don't agree. The scope of Live Mesh is far far larger than SyncToy - the best is yet to come and it has nothing to do with file-sharing.

Plus Live mesh is still in beta i.e. Its unfinished.

Besides, why the complaint? If you want to use SyncToy, use it. Should they only give us one option?

  • It sounds like you don't have a need for the sync capabilities of Live Mesh. SyncToy is a simple file sync program, albeit technically unsupported by the developers, to keep files within any two folders and/or sub-folders in sync. Live Mesh has the capability of keeping a folder of files in sync between multiple computers, devices, and the web - the Live Desktop.

  • It will be improved in the future, I am sure. The scope of Live Mesh will eventually be larger than that of SyncToy.

Although admittedly it does seem to be taking longer than expected? I thought that we'd have more features by now - they showed off some really cool stuff in the videos, but little has materialized.
