Vista won't validate because i dont have a start menu RRS feed

  • Question

  • when i turn on my laptop and sign onto any of the users it comes into a black background and it says that i have to validate my vista [i know that its real because it was a part of the laptop when i bought it at a real store] and to validate i have to go to the start menu, but i don't have any start menu what so ever! i cant even choose which window i want to open because i cant see the others so i can only have 1 window open at the time! which also means that i cant use anything on my laptop except for Safari! How can i Validate vista without a start menu?

    #6:

As you can see, the desktop is black, and there is no Start menu. An additional message will appear in the lower right corner of the screen that reads, "This copy of Windows is not genuine". Because activation is required, this message will continue to appear until Windows Vista has been successfully activated.

A Windows Activation dialog box will provide you with the option to activate now, access your computer with reduced functionality , retype your product key, or select other ways to help you activate Windows.

  • Hello EmmyVictoria,

In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in this thread.

If you do not have access to the Start Button:

    1)    Login to Vista and click the option that brings up Internet Explorer.

    2)    Type: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 into the browser address bar.

    3)    A window will come up asking if you want to “Run” or “Save”, Select “Run”

    4)    When the program runs, click the “Continue” button, then click the “Copy” button.

    5)    Return to this thread http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/thread/b61394b3-c75f-42ab-8b21-03ea9661f6f9.

    6)    In a reply post, paste the Diagnostic Report.
