One Care will not start RRS feed

  • Question

  • My OneCare will not start on my Toshiba laptop. It has been running for about 2 years with little/no problem. Vista is the OS I read the existing (Nov 2008) postings. I got the same warning the OneCare would not initiate. IE would not start. Other programs would not start. I rebooted several times. After reading the postings, I tried to uninstall. I navigated to the Program Uninstall/Change Program page. I clicked on OneCare and then clicked the "Uninstall" button. Nothing happens. The HD does not run and I waited. After 2-3 minutes of no apparent activity, I clicked the "Uninstall" button again and the pop-up stating "Please wait until the current program finished uninstalling or being changed."  Now it has been 20 minutes and no progress.

What is the next thing to try?

  • The first thing to try is check the PC date and time. If it is wrong, odd things can happen.
If other programs are also acting strange and the PC is unresponsive or slow to respond, you may be experiencing other problems - including an impending hard disk failure.
If it isn't a date issue, try running whatever diagnostics are available from Toshiba's support site for your model PC.
Since the issue is not exclusive to OneCare, I don't think it is a OneCare issue, but you can contact support if desired.

  • The clock and date are correct. I logged in as a different user and things were running even worse. Logged back in as myself.Back to where I was tried to remove a Verizon connectivity program. It would not uninstall either. BasicMS Windows functions are not working.

I'd start with Toshiba support and now that you mention the Verizon software, you may want to contac them. I don't think that you problem is caused by or specific to OneCare based on what you're reporting.
