Hosting LARGE Live Meetings using OCS Web Conferencing RRS feed

  • Question

I was wondering if anyone has hosted a large live meeting using OCS with the audio option included. Looking for any user experiences with say an audience over 700. If so, what kind of environment are you running i.e. hardware/network/type of OCS deployment. thanks.

  • Hi,

The OCS 2007 on-premise solution doesn't support a live meeting larger than 250 participants. If you need more you need to use the Microsoft hosted live meeting service which can scale beyond 1000 participants in a meeting.

Note that 250 is not a hardcoded limit but more a supported limit that can you achieve by using the hardware proposed in the planning guide. With the right hardware it's suggested that you might be able to scale beyond 1000 participants but it was not the goal for OCS 2007 and as such not supported. You probabely also need a fair amount of support staff and bandwidth to host such large meetings.

There is a section on the OCS 2007 Resource Kit that describes this topic.
