WGA with Vista Home Premium RRS feed

  • Question

  • This has been a nightmare recently, Last night one of my SATA HD's died on me and it had to be the one with Vista installed on.

So I reinstalled, and tried to re-activate, great their servers dont recognise my hardware is only missing 1 HD. So Phone activation I go, which worked, this morning it wanted to be activated again due to Hardware Change, which worked online.

So I needed DX9b for a game I play, so I thought why not go online and get the latest, installed the WGA tool to validate my Windows, and bam it says have to be activated, which it was, now its confused Vista, it says activated by lost my Genuine stamp.

So not so good so far me thinks. Anyone else had the same issue and found a way to rectify it?

  • Since you're already activated you can go to: www.microsoft.com/genuine and click "Validate Windows" to revalidate and get your Genuine stamp back.  Thanks!

  • Did the reinstall solve your issue?  If not, please phone activate and then revalidate.  You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui 4" in the search field in the Start Menu and pressing Enter.

It looks like in the UK the phone activation system is a little less than intuitive for now, so the second to last post in this thread might be helpful for you: http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1280886&SiteID=25&mode=1

Please do let me know if you need more assistance.  Thank you!

  • Errr thats what I did in the first place. You didnt read what was said. (and I noticed you removed my 2nd post)

Just to clarify, WGA will not validate as it continually says im not activated which I am.

I had to reinstall YET AGAIN.

So far its been a disgrace, lack of support, not even decent support when it arrives.

  • Here is what I sent to support earlier..

"I recently installed the WGA ActiveX control, and my Vista Home Premium WAS activated, but on install it reports that it is not, now I have lost my genuine stamp and windows continually tells me that my windows is not genuine which IT IS.

Not a very good start so far, poorly controlled and very little support on what has happened."

    The crappy reply...

Yes seems the ability to read English astounds me, or should I say lack off. Why should I want to purchase another Vista??? May I suggest not using India or the likes for support lines etc, as they havent got a clue.

  • I reinstalled yes and I activated, but what if I run the WGA ActiveX control again, and it does the same?

Thats what I want to know, why is it doing this with people.

But ill go run it again and try to validate, it better not do the same again.

EDIT: It validated this time, but why did it not work the 1st time is the question, due to hardware change (I.e. my SATA HD dying on me?)
