virus protection RRS feed

  • Question

  • Each time we turn on our (new) computer a message comes up that says we have no virus protection.  I registered our purchase and the firewall is working, but not virus protection.  Thanks very much.

  • If the One Care antivirus protection is failing to start try the repair tool - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1695761&SiteID=2

If the One Care icon is green and the Windows Security Center is warning of no installed virus protection see this Microsoft Knowledge Base article to resolve the issue - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944175/en-us

When I click on the box that pops up another larger box comes up.

    'Windows security center'

    Firewall on

    Automatic update on

    Malware protection

    Virus protection not found

    Spyware and malware protecion on

    Other security settings  on

When I click onto the virus protection part it says I have to download something different????

  • I think that you need this:

Windows Security Center fix - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2469173&SiteID=2

If OneCare is green, yet the Security Center is reporting a problem, that means that the database used by the Windows Security Center is corrupt.

  • Open One Care>Change Settings>Viruses and Spyware>On. If you are unable to turn on virus and spyware monitoring see the above posts forhelp.

If you are unable to turn on OneCare's virus and spyware protection and the repair tool does not work, please contact support.

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

if the message is coming from the Windows Security Center, see this post:

If you are getting a popup that advises that your PC is unprotected and advises you to click to install a product, your PC is infected and you should contact support per the link above.
