Unable to configure CRM Outlook Client RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I can access the crm with browser without any issues.
My domain is different from CRM domain.
when I access the crm over internet it will automatically logged in as I listed this in intranet sites(tools/internet options/security) and set to Automatic login in intranet zone in custom level and everything works fine.
My crm role is System Administrator and I am not using vpn while accessing crm.

The url for the crm server is https://crm.mycompanyname.net

Now, when I tried to configure CRM for outlook client I keep getting some errors

If I connect through My Company with the same url in both Intranet and External web address the error is :

"The configuration wizard cannot connect to the Microsoft CRM server. This might indicate that the server is down".

If I connect using  An online service provider then the error is :

"The request failed with http status 401: UnAuthorized"

So, what i tried is I install the crm on a vpc with different domain and tried to configure outlook client and I get the same errors.

Then I tried to configure outlook directly on vpc and it works fine.

So, is this the problem with the credentials? Is it taking the credentials of the user who logged in?

I tried many ways and can't get through...

Any assistance on this is appreciable...

    -Dinesh

  • It is taking the credentials of the user who logged into the domain.

  • Thanks donna...
    I agree with the answer.
Now how can I provide my credentials to connect to the outlook?

  • YOu shouldn't need to provide credentials.  When you log into the computer as the individual who has the Outlook profile, and configure the OUtlook client the credentials should pass automatically.  If that is not happening, then something is wrong.  Be sure the user has Admin rights on the computer.

  • I have outlook profile and admin rights.
Now, I am not clear with configuring the outlook client to pass credentials automatically.
Colud you clear me on this...

  • Have you checked you SQL configuration, did you migrate you CRM server or database?

Error massage: when using the Configuratiewizzard of Microsoft CRM 4.0 outlook client.

"The configuration wizard cannot connect to the Microsoft CRM server. This might indicate that the server is down".

Open the SQL server Management Studio, than tabel 'DeploymentProperties' of the database MSCRM_CONFIG. Check if the fields 'AsyncSdkRootDomain', 'ADSdkRootDomain' and 'ADWebApplicationRootDomain' got a reference URL to the old location.

Change, when this is the situation, and follow up the script below to the new location '<server>:<port>'

    USE MSCRM_CONFIG
Update DeploymentProperties SET NVarCharColumn = '<server>:<port>' WHERE ColumnName = 'AsyncSdkRootDomain'
Update DeploymentProperties SET NvarCharColumn = '<server>:<port>' WHERE ColumnName = 'ADSdkRootDomain'
Update DeploymentProperties SET NvarCharColumn = '<server>:<port>' WHERE ColumnName = 'ADWebApplicationRootDomain'

Than execute the client configuratie wizzard again.

  • Only AsyncSdkRootDomain table has empty value in NVarCharColumn.
I ran the script for that table. But I am still facing the same issue
"The configuration wizard cannot connect to the Microsoft CRM server. This might indicate that the server is down".

    Any other ideas???

    -Thanks

  • When you log into the client machine, you need to ensure you are logging into the domain where CRM resides.  If the client machine is logging into a different domain, you will have issues.  One user stated that he had success with the following steps but I have not tested it.

    • On the client machine open User Accounts.
    • Click on the Advanced tab (must be logged in as an Admin user).
    • Click Manage Passwords button.
    • Then add the exact login information required by CRM

If CRM is deployed using IFD then check out this blog for more information about the configuration.  Please note this statement:

"For configuration to succeed, the Outlook client must be able to connect to the server using AD authentication."

  • When configuring the Outlook client, have you tried just using the following URL - https://CRMSERVERNAME

    Thanks,

  • Perfectionist, if it makes you feel any better, you're not the only one having this problem. I get the EXACT same error here and this is a brand new install and this is just the first user....
