Change database engine in VS2012.. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have SQL server 2008 R2 as well as SQL 2012 installed on my machine. When I try to connect to database from within VS 2012 for some reason it is using SQL 2012 database engine whereas i want to use SQL server 2008 R2. To be more specific, when i hit "add sql server" in SQL server Object Explorer, i see a "Connect To Server" dialog box that say SQL Server 2012. I want to use SQL server 2008 R2. Because i have developer edition of sql server2008R2 installed on my machine that allows Partitions and i have evaluation version of sql server 2012 that does not allow partition. Because of that when i try to run my application in debug mode on my local machine i am getting following error:

Error 9 SQL72014: .Net SqlClient Data Provider: Msg 7736, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 Partition function can only be created in Enterprise edition of SQL Server. Only Enterprise edition of SQL Server supports partitioning.

Is there a way to do tell VS2012 to use SQL server 2008 R2 rather than SQL server 2012?

    Thanks
