  • I can only tell you iodine that when it becomes available, you should be thrilled with it.  I expect we will see it and hopefully it will not be too long.

  • In particular, what are you looking for Craig?  The folks from the Windows Mobile group look at the suggestion box and I can imagine that they might ask what I just did.

  • When you use Live Search it only lets you select US or UK.  Also when you search for things like restaurants it only gives me US results.  I live in Toronto and the closest results it gives me is NY usually.

I much prefer the Live Search software however I am forced to used Google Maps on my Windows Mobile due to lack of content/support for Canada.

I assume Canada support is in the works, so I guess my question would be when will it be available?

    Thanks.

  • Thanks Craig.  That was important that you indicate that.

I agree that it is an important feature that needs to be added and like you, I assume it is in the works.  For me, when I travel to Canada, it would be a great feature to have ... clearly making traveling a better experience.  Let's hope it is not too long in coming.

  • Just a few pet peeves with Live Search 2.5.2908.31943 on Windows Mobile 6 (HTC Touch)

Units: I can select US or UK. Setting the unit to UK allows me to use Kilometres as my preferred units. Handy, as I really can't fathom how far 0.6 miles is when looking at search results. But when I select UK, all the local search options vanish so I have a catch 22 here.

Choose City: I normally use GPS position so I don't *really* care as much about this.... but the Choose City option lists US cities only. If I speak something like "Georgetown Ontario" or "Toronto" it returns wild results for places in the US.

When using "Speak" to search 99.999% of the time I get US results. When typing I get Canadian results. So I use Google Maps/Google Search (which will also give me distances in Kilometres)

Search: Returns US Results first. For Example, search for "Tim Hortons" in Mississauga, Ontario: First result is International Border Crossing Plaza, Youngstown NY, which is "42.08 mi" away. Second result is one in downtown Mississauga < 1 mile away. Next 24 matches are all in Mississauga area. Wondering why the NY one ranks as #1 though.

Categories: VERY US Centric. Search for "Police" in Mississauga, Ontario yeilds Youngstown Police Department, NY.

Driving Directions: Reports distances in Miles.....not helpful when the highway signs are in Kilometres. Otherwise works well around here.

Map: Works good. Even shows Toronto traffic

    Movies: Works great.

Traffic: I can get Traffic information on maps.live.com for Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Nothing shows up in THIS section though. Right Hand needs an introduction to the Left Hand Smile

Gas Prices: Completely non functional in Ontario

What's interesting to me is that the back end seems to have most of the Canadian data already. This is literally a case of a couple minor tweaks to the front end and you'll have 32 million happy people running around with Live Search. It's not like anyone's going to be buying an iPhone up here any time soon (seize the opportunity!)

The movie section works partially. the first 2 movie theaters are in Ottawa  (0.31 mi & 7.21 mi) the next 6 are  in the US (50.38 mi to 100.7mi) and come back to the Ottawa region with the distance showing 163 mi + and the first 2 theaters repeat with 5534.41 mi

The gas prices there are no result for my city

Traffic coverage only toronto is in the list no other Canadian cities.

Please get the Canadian info in Live search.

  • I expect it is a priority creole cutie.  It has been a very popular program and it will get better and better.  It's like the old American Express ad, I won't leave home without it!
