well there is two ways
You can either use the multitenancy capabilities having a production "org" and a development "org" on the same server
or
a seporate server using the deloyment manager to deploy a production sql db on a development machine.
make a sql backup from your _mscrm db
restore on the new server.
crm must be installed and operational!.
open deployment manager and selct import new orginization.
poit to the restored sql db and import.
if the new org will be your default set it to default and delte the previuos org name within the deployment manager.
if you struggle feel free to skype me!
