Counterfit XP professional product key RRS feed

  • Question

  • I built my computer in Aug. 2008 and installed Win XP Pro I purchased with my hard drive. My system has worked fine until this week. I made a big mistake in opening a Fedex spam email. I think I have removed all the related viruses with my AVG anti virus software. But am still with the counterfit message for XP. Do I have any option to repair the XP OS? Or must I do a clean install with Win 7?

  • Your MGA Report shows a non-genuine copy of a Volume License version of Windows XP installed.  The license has been blocked because the original owner of the license reported it as lost, stolen or misused.  Performing a "clean install" of a genuine "full version" of Windows 7 would be the way to go.

  • The product key listed in the diagnostic report is not the product code I have on my original install disk? Did the virus program I got somehow change the product key? If so, is there a way to re-install my authentic product key without having to do a "clean install" as suggested of Win 7?

  • If you have a genuine Windows XP Professional product key, try using the Windows Product Key Update Tool to change it. (click on the Windows XP tab on the website to access the tool).
