Counterfit XP professional product key

Question
-
I built my computer in Aug. 2008 and installed Win XP Pro I purchased with my hard drive. My system has worked fine until this week. I made a big mistake in opening a Fedex spam email. I think I have removed all the related viruses with my AVG anti virus software. But am still with the counterfit message for XP. Do I have any option to repair the XP OS? Or must I do a clean install with Win 7?

If you have a genuine Windows XP Professional product key, try using the Windows Product Key Update Tool to change it. (click on the Windows XP tab on the website to access the tool).

Your MGA Report shows a non-genuine copy of a Volume License version of Windows XP installed. The license has been blocked because the original owner of the license reported it as lost, stolen or misused. Performing a "clean install" of a genuine "full version" of Windows 7 would be the way to go.

The product key listed in the diagnostic report is not the product code I have on my original install disk? Did the virus program I got somehow change the product key? If so, is there a way to re-install my authentic product key without having to do a "clean install" as suggested of Win 7?
