Reactivate required after addin RAM. RRS feed

  • Question

  • In our company we have an HP Desktop with Windows XP Professional Running on it, it had 256 MB of RAM. I added another 500 mb in the other memory slot to make it 750 MB, when I retsarted the PC, Windows XP asked me to activate my windows. I did by giving the product key and it worked, when Itried to do the same thing for another HP PC It doesn's allow me to activate my windows. The system is halted and takes me to the activtion page. How can I get rid of this reactivation screen, or what product key should I use now.

You might be able to address your immediate issue of the expired activation grace period by resetting it. Follow these steps:

    1. If the computer can be started to a safe mode command prompt, do so.

    2. At the command prompt, type this command exactly (space, caps, and comma are essential):

    rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk

    3. Restart.

If you were successful, your activation grace period will have been reset, giving you more time to work on the problem.

    Then post an MGADiag report

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
