Disk Space discrepency RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had 3 different machines run full backups to the WHS.

My WHS currently has 1 HD at 160GB. The available diskspace in WHS console shows 130GB free out of 152GB, with 6GB taking up space for backups. I find this hard to believe when i ran a full backup of 72GB of data from one machine as well as 16GB of data from another. I understand the Single Instance Storage technology, however when i RDP into the WHS and I look at the available space on the hard disk via Windows Explorer, it represents a more accurate size, 52Gb FREE and about 100GB used.

Anyone have any insight on this?

  • The report of space consumed by backups is known to be wildly inaccurate in this version. So it's a bug, but one that Microsoft already knows about and (presumably) has a fix for in a later version.
