Re-Install of XP RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am currently re-installing XP on a friends laptop.  He previously had XP Pro installed, but I am using a genuine copy of XP Home.  The laptop is a toshiba and has the coa underneath.  I have put the key in and I get "The product Id you entered is not valid".

What do I need to do.

  • Coullio,

The product key located on the bottom of the computer probably probably isn't correct for the version of Windows which your attempting to install. Product keys are specific for what version of Windows which is installed.  Example you can't use a Windows XP Professional product key to install Windows XP Home or vice versa. Hopefully this will help. The best option you have @ this moment is to call the manufacturer of your friends laptop and order the Recovery Media for his particular model.

    Take care,

    Stephen
