WHS reports an error with my Remote Web Access site because UPnP is not enabled on my router (but it is!) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Today, my WHS 2011 dashboard is suddenly telling me that there's a problem with my Remote Web Access site. When open the Dashboard and look at the Remote Web Access settings, it tells me the router is not working. When I run the troubleshooter, it says that UPnP is not enabled on my Cisco E2000 router.

I checked my router settings, and it looks like UPnP is enabled. Just to be sure, I disabled it, saved my configuration, enabled it again, and saved again. But that's not making the troubleshooter happy. FWIW, I seem to be able to launch my Remote Web Access site just fine (granted, I'm testing from within my home network at the moment).

Sidebar: when I actually turn off UPnP on my router, the troubleshooter then finds multple routers on my network and tells me my router may not be compatible with Remote Web Access.

Any idea what might be causing this issue? Could it be a bad configuration with WHS? Thanks!

  • It would seem that I stumbled around and fixed it. I hard reset the router, ran the setup and configuration again, and repaired the Remote Web Access site again from the Dashboard. Now it's reporting that the router is working fine. All seems well again. Thanks!

    Helo.

I have the same problem with my remote web access settings. My router is an Apple Airport Extreme who does not have UPnP but port 80, 443 and 4125 have been open for my old homeserver for years. homeserver 2011 has the same ip-adress and name as the old one had so that would not be a problem and I have  restarted my router bot a worm and cold one..

    What shall I do?

  • It would have been better to have started your own thread as this one was answered.

However, you do not need Port 4125 at all for WHS 2011, Port 443 is the only essential port (required for https://), with Port 80 optional (if you want to access via http://). What I would suggest is going to www.grc.com and running ShieldsUp which will tell you if the ports are actually open. If not, I suggest deleting the current rules, powering off your router and then try manually forwarding Port 443 again and testing again with ShieldsUp.
