Remote access port issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • My ISP, Verizon FIOS blocks port 80 or port 443 traffic. They told me today that this is their policy and can not open them up. Is there an alternative way for me to get remote access to work? I read through some of the prior posting but didnt understand some of the advanced techniques described.

  • It's possible to change ports 80 and 443 to other ports. You need to understand a bit about configuring IIS, though, and if you don't, then what you want to do is pretty much just not possible.

Something else to consider: It is strictly against Verizon's TOS to have a server that's accessible to the world on your home broadband connection. Also strictly against their TOS is circumventing any technical restrictions they place on your connection. (such as remapping ports on your router.) They may terminate your Internet service, or bill you for business class service since the beginning of time, and you will have no real recourse since you agree to their TOS by using their service.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
