Vista Home Edition upgrade to Vista Ultimate unsuccessful....... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Brand new HP Slimline, out-of-box with Vista Home Edition pre-installed.  I purchased Microsoft Vista Ultimate upgrade program from Staples this past Spring, attempted then to load it on my 7-year-old Gateway w/XP only to learn that the RAM was insufficient.  So I waited to buy a new HP with Duo Core AMD in November.

I just went through a two-hour upgrade process only to be kicked out at the end of the process with 'a component would not load from your previous version (new computer, mind you) and you will be returned to you previous Windows version'.

How do I upgrade my Vista HE with my new Microsoft Vista Ultimate software?  Had some sort of time limit expired while awaiting my new computer? BTW, I have yet to use the product key on the boxes label.

    Thank You

  • Hello Scooter2,

This forum is not the best place for your issue. We handle Product Activation, Genuine Validation and general Anti-Piracy issues.

I can, however, direct you to a couple areas that may be able to help you with your issue.

    1) You could repost on one of our Vista Newsgroups http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=42486

    2) You could goto http://support.microsoft.com and contact Vista support (install issues are usually no cost)

    3) If the MS after your name means that you are a Microsoft Employee, you may want to contact our internal Help Desk.

    I'm sorry I couldn't be more help,
