How can I give you my money....or, is there an easy way to activate a home server software trial to full version? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been running the Windows Home Server 120-day trial on a PC I built for my needs.  The trial period has expired, and since I really, really like Home Server, I want to upgrade the full license.

So, why do you require that I order a new OEM Home Server disk, wait to have it delivered, then reinstall the whole it (?) instead of allow me to purchase an upgrade/activate online or via phone?

Its quite a pain, and a small blemish on an otherwise excellent product.  Help?

  • Your question is answered in the FAQ section. To paraphrase what I wrote there, there is a time bomb built into the operating system for the evaluation software that progressively disables it. The time bomb is not tied to the product key, and can't be circumvented. To save you the trouble of speculating, it's undoubtedly there for revenue protection reasons.

So you have to reinstall to remove the time bomb.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
