Hi Bill,
Your Diagnostic Report shows your Vista as Genuine and I do not see any error codes, but I do see that you had a Mod-Auth Tamper back on 02/26/2008 and this may be related. I suggest going to http://microsoft.com/genuine and click the Validate Windows button and then reboot 2 times.
I also see that file tapi32.dll is showing as Mismatched. What that means is that file has been Modified or has be come Corrupt. This can have unprodictable affects in Vista. If you continue to have problems, I would suggest using the Windows Restore process that came with your computer. All computers built by large computer manufacturers and come pre-installed with Vista, come with a Windows Restore process. Each computer manufacturer does it differently, so please see the documentation that came with your computer (or contact the manufacturer) for assistance on how to conduct the Windows Restore. Please be sure to back up any importent files as Windows Restore will bring Vista back to how it was when it came from the factory.
Lastly, your copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 was installed using Volume License Product Key that has been blocked by Microsoft. VLK License Keys are used by Large Companies, Universities and Government Agencies to manage large numbers of installs within thier organization. Please uninstall this copy of office and contact your Network Admin or IT Dept for a Genuine copy of Office.

Your issue does not appear to be the same. The fact that it has stopped shutting down tells me that there is a deeper issue then just Genuine vs. Non-Genuine. HP may not be able to give you a new copy of Vista, but they should still be able to troubleshoot the shutdown issue or help you conduct the Windows Restore process (which would bring Vista back to how it was when it came from the factory).
Thank you,

I have an HP m8100n media center PC running Vista Home Premium that displays the same message. I purchased the PC in June 2007 from Nebraska Furniture Mart. It was operating fantastically well until about 3 months ago when it quit shutting down when I selected Shut Down. At that point it started showing more and more problems. It has tried to repair itself automatically but some of the auto repairs are failing and, within the past 3 weeks, it started showing the Windows Vista Build 6000 message in the lower right hand corner of the machine. When I contacted HP service about getting a copy of Vista on CD, they told me they couldn't due to licensing. I don't know what to do to get the thing running like new again.
