  • If you are using Windows Live OneCare, it will disable the Windows Firewall using Group Policy settings. This forum is for the discussion of Windows Live OneCare, which includes its own firewall, replacing the Windows Firewall.

If you aren't using OneCare, then you're off topic, but this may resolve your problem:

Start/Run - type "regedit" without the quotes, click OK

Delete these Registry keys if they exist:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall

    \DomainProfile \EnableFirewall=0 (DWORD data type)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsFirewall

    \StandardProfile \EnableFirewall=0 (DWORD data type)

WARNING - editing the registry could cause your PC to be unusable.

  • It is actualy One Care that is warning me that the firewall is down. When I open security centre I have no control.

Looked at above entries and they do not exist.

    Thanks for answering.

  • Francois, if you have Windows Live OneCare installed you need to configure the firewall in Windows OneCare. The Windows Firewall is disabled by OneCare. If the OneCare firewall is failing to start, that is a different problem altogether. I recommend that you contact support for help on this -
