Windows Home Server Console giving error: "This computer cannot connect to your home server. Check..." RRS feed

  • Question

  • None of the client computers in my house are able to access my WHS as of this morning (Win7, XP, Vista).  They all get the error: This computer cannot connect to your home sever.  Check your network connection..."

I have tried the following so far - unfortunately with no success:
    1. restarted the WHS
    2. restarted the client PCs
    3. ran discovery.exe from the client PCs
    4. re-installed the connector software on the client PCs.

    More facts:
The WHS does show up in the network neighborhood of my client PCs
I can browse and access the shares on my WHS from the client PCs
I can access the Windows Home Server Console on the WHS itself.

So what should I try now??

  • It seems the issue was due to a corrupt UPS service.  Grid Junction, an add-in to monitor UPS status, was conflicting with APC Powerchute application.  Uninstalling Powerchute and re-installing Grid Junction did the trick.  Not sure why this caused an error in the connector, but that's what did the trick.

  • I have had similar issues lately but they have been fixed by uninstalling the Connector software and then reinstalling.  One potential issue is that with PP3 I believe there is a new version of the Connector software.

  • Have you tried checking your anti-virus software for firewall settings? I had the same issues on a re-install where I added an anti-virus and had to turn off the firewall in the new anti-virus program. Also have to enable GUEST or enter each client username and password into server.
