  • Morning Alex,

Thank you for the update. Wow 1521 viruses.... Alex I would completey reformat the hard drive and re-install Windows. Currently it apears many things have occurred throughout your system and for peace of mind this is what I recommend. Trust me I do understand all the work involved but reformatting/re-installing will help.

    Take care Alex,

    Stephen

  • Hello Notorious,

Thank you for posting with us today. You said suddenly BOOM things went bad. Have you installed any programs or maybe have any potential virsus?

The problem is that your Vista's Software Licensing Service has stopped. Vista uses this service to check itself and confirm it is Genuine. When the service is stopped, Vista is unable to confirm its own Genuine status and may show Genuine or Non-Genuine. The fact that the Service has stopped is also, most likely, the cause of other issues you may be experiencing (such as not having access to the Control Panel).

Normally this is not a big problem, since you can just restart the Service. However, we have seen a number of users that receive an error when they attempt to restart the Service. This indicates a more serious 'root cause' to the service having stopped.

What I would like you to do is to try to restart the service using the 'Service Restart' steps, below. If the service won't restart, you will receive an error.

    Service Restart steps:

(If you have access to the Start button):

    1)    Click the Start button

    2)    Type: cmd in the Start Search field

    3)    At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe

    4)    Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5)    Type: net start slsvc

(If you do not have access to the Start button):

    1)    Click the option that launches an Internet Browser

    2)    A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field

    3)    Find the file cmd.exe

    4)    Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5)    Type: net start slsvc

    A)   If the error message is "System Error 3, The system cannot find the path specified." or "System Error 2, The system cannot find the file specified" then go to the main Vista Validation forum page http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/threads/, look in the announcement section and follow the steps found in thread "Fix for ‘Software Licensing service Has Stopped’ on some Vista 64bit systems"

    B)    If you get any other error, please follow and answer the below steps and questions

What was the Full error message, you received, when you attempted to restart the Service?

Have you recently installed or replaced any Hardware or Software?

Do you have any Registry Cleaner software installed?  (include the name and version)

Do you have a Anti-Virus program that is up-to-date with all updates and signature files?

If so, run a complete scan. Did it find anything?

Also go to http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm and run a complete scan using the OneCare Safety Scan for Windows Vista. Did it find anything?

    Thank you,

    Stephen

  • Dear Stephen

First thanks for your help so far...
I did open the cmd and tried to restart the service.....The weird thing is that i didn't get any of the 2 errors you mentioned earlier but i got this instead "A System error has occurred"
"System error 54273 has occurred" "The system cannot find message text for message number 0xd401 in the message file for BASE"

As for the other questions i have installed software lately but didn't noticed anything weird....I also had CCleaner but i uninstalled it(I used Total Uninstall 5 the past few days but i don't think it was infected). As for the anti virus i did have Bit Defender 2009 fully updated but i uninstalled it because last time i scanned the bit defender files it found that they were infected too and that's was weird....Hope i helped...

    Thank you,

    Alex

  • Hey Alex,

Thank you for the update :-). The error 0xd401 is a Mod Auth Tamper. Can please re-run the MGA Diagnostic Tool and give us the results again. Also you mentioned having a virus. Unfortunatly I am thinking your best course of action Alex is to back up all of your files such as pictures, Office Documents, bookmarks etc and completely reformat/re-install Vista. This would give you peace of mind in case a monster still lurks amuck. Based on many articles I have read thru the years this is what they recommend.  Still though please provide us with a new MGA results and let me take another peak.

    Thank you,

    Stephen

  • Hey Stephen,

I would like to keep you updated.Yesterday my PC started at normal mode which made me thinking again. So i found the opportunity to make things i couldn't make in safe mode.
First of all i installed One Care and with the last online scan i made i found 1521 viruses 3 issues many registry errors and some other stuffs. So i downloaded One Care subscribed for the 90 days trial and right now i am trying to repair the damage. No weird messages for now like "unauthorized error" and that stuff.I hope One Care will fix and tune up my PC.
Although i noticed in the last Diagnostic Report that it says "Invalid license".Also noticed the TTS error was made at 06/12/2009 at 03:53 that was last night.I am a little bit confused now that's why i am asking for help.Anyway i am waiting for your help.

    Thank you,

    Alex

  • Morning Alex,

Thank you for the update. Wow 1521 viruses.... Alex I would completey reformat the hard drive and re-install Windows. Currently it apears many things have occurred throughout your system and for peace of mind this is what I recommend. Trust me I do understand all the work involved but reformatting/re-installing will help.

    Take care Alex,

    Stephen

  • Hey Stephen,

I think that's the best solution.Even throught all the searching i have made it gets worse. The infection gets worse it even uninstalls my drivers now.No sound no USB's ports working. The only thing that worries me is that when i bought my laptop they didn't gave me any CD containing Vista so now that i need the CD i don't have it.From the other hand i don't want to take a copy of the Windows cause i hate piracy.Any suggestions?

    Thanks a lot,

    Alex

  • Hey NoToRiOuS1990 ,

Usually if vista was pre-installed then you don't need a cd, you would find a Recovery partition on a hard drive.
In that case all you do is burn a recovery disk from that then boot up from the cd.

    Hope that helps,

    Reddemon

  • Hello Alex,

Did you have a chance to see if there are any hidden partions located on laptop? Sometimes OEM Manufactures place a hidden partion on their systems so their Technical Support staff may help the customer reimage the system. I would recommend to back up any and all your data. Next call their technical support and request assistance as how your laptop can be re-imaged. Next I would also request them to send you the Recovery Software Media so you will have this should you run into future problems. Hopefully this will help direct you towards a resolution.

    Take care

    Stephen
