What's next after One Care is no longer supported. Has worked great so far. Why stop when you're ahead?

Jim - MVP Windows Live - Forum Moderator - Live One Care - Live Mesh - Microsoft Security EssentialsI too am sorry to see OneCare go. Reluctantly I uninstalled OneCare today (additionally running the OneCare cleanup tool after removing it in the Programs and Features control panel menu) and installed MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) without incident.
While it may not include all the useful features of OneCare, hopefully it will provide the same excellent anti-virus/anti-malware protection.
From a November 18, 2008 post in the Windows Live OneCare Team Blog (http://windowsonecare.spaces.live.com/), the following is cited as one of the primary reasons for phasing out Live OneCare:In hopes of getting more consumers protected, this week, Microsoft announced that it will offer a new security solution to consumers at no cost beginning in the second half of calendar year 2009. This new offering will focus on getting the majority of consumers the essential protection they need by providing comprehensive, real-time anti-malware protection, covering such threats as viruses, spyware, rootkits, trojans, and other emerging threats, in a single, focused solution.
In order for us to focus on delivering this new security solution to millions of customers around the world, we have decided to phase out Windows Live OneCare and will discontinue retail sales of Windows Live OneCare subscription service beginning June 30, 2009.
