I was just notified that my subscription to Windows Live OneCare will be automatically extended for six months free of charge and that the product will no longer be available for purchase for the remainder of 2009 and will be discontinued in 2010. I love my Windows Live OneCare. What will replace it? When will it be available? How much will it cost?

The short asnwers are:
Microsoft Security Essentials will replace it.
Later this year it will be available. It is currently in a limited public beta test.
