    i am attempting to determine how to show the category and memo field in the register on a newly created account

    You will like this: Press Ctrl-T to toggle whether you show those or if you are in single-line mode.

    Some people prefer the Transactions Forms mode. To select that, tick the box for ShowTransactionsForms at the bottom.
