Looking for entity best practices RRS feed

  • We're using a custom entity for accounts and a requirement came up for business units.  Some of the attributes will be common to both, but they each have a decent number of unique attributes.

    Looking online and through the forums I see two major options:

    1. Add a parent/child relationship from account back to itself.  Build a form for account and business unit.  Then add an account "type" attribute with javascript to display the correct form for the correct type of account
    2. Build a seperate entity for business unit with its own form and build an N:1 relationship to account

    I'm not a developer so I'm inclined to lean towards option 2, but I'm not sure how difficult that will make reporting for common attributes...

  • I had the same requirement. I had two options that i can use:

    1. Use Account type field with javascript to show/hide the tabs.

    2. Use role based form available with crm 2011.

    I opted for javascript.
