  • Hello jsrmlr,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

The report says at the moment your Dell Inspiron 8600 computer has a Blocked VLK, which means that (a) your computer has a Volume Licensing edition of Office Professional 2003 installed, and that (b) a Blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) was used to install it.  A "blocked" VLK is one that was issued by Microsoft to a business, educational institution, or governmental agency for their exclusive use in accordance with a Volume Licensing Agreement.  (Note that such use does NOT allow the resale of such VLKs.)  However, because the VLK may have been reported lost, stolen, or compromised to the internet by the original keyholder, or because the Volume Licensing Agreement has expired, Microsoft has blocked the VLK from further use.

It is entirely possible that you did purchase a genuine copy of Office 2003 at Office Depot.  However, what we are sure of is that at the moment, that genuine copy of Office is not currently installed on the computer.

This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or some or all of your programs.  You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs, along with the genuine Product Key found on your Office Edition's Certificate of Authenticity or yellow-orange product key label, to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer.

Please post back to let us know how it turns out :-)

  • My CDs were lost in hurricane Katrina so I purchased Microsoft Professional 2007 and installed it this afternoon.  I read on microsoft that installing 2007 would automatically UNINSTALL earlier versions of Office.  This did not happen.  I've searched how to safely uninstall 2003 but can't find exactly what I'm looking for.  Can you help with this?

    Thanks.

  • Hello jsrmlr,

To my knowledge, the process of installing Office 2007 is not designed to uninstall any previous edition or version of Office.

Have you tried uninstalling Office 2003 from the Add or Remove Programs applet of the Control Panel?  If you have not, please try it.

If you have, post back---there is an automated utility that will uninstall ALL Office elements so you can start fresh with the newly purchased Office 2007.

  • Thanks for your response.

I tried to uninstall by going to the control panel, add or remove programs, highlighted Office Professional 2003, then clicked on "remove".  I got an error message saying something like "fatal error during installation".

I would like to uninstall all Office and start fresh with my newly purshased 2007.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hello jsrmlr,

Here is the MS KB article with the MS FixIt that will automtaically remove Office 2007:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971179/

There is no similar Microsoft-supported utility to remove Office 2003.  However, you can use the MS Installer CleanUp utility here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301  along with instructions for deleting Office 2003 files and registry settings that can be acquired by searhing the internet on "manually uninstall Office 2003" which should give a reasonable effective uninstallation of Office 2003.
