  • I'm stuck with a computer issue. The hard drive on a personal computer prematurely failed. The PC was under warranty so they said to send it back; which, I did. They replaced the hard drive, but it wiped out all the information. I restored all my data and everything had been working fine. The other day when I powered on the PC a prompt came up with my computer name requesting a password. I had written down the password I had originally given the computer and tried that and of course it didn't work - I'm guessing because the hard drive had been replaced (and when I had gotten the PC back I do not recall being asked if to set this protection up and if I had I'm sure I would have used the same password I had used in the past). I've tried every password I've ever used for anything and nothing works.

The operating system is Windows XP home edition.

Both the PC maker and Microsoft have very expensive help features. Please help. Thank you.
