Office Validation Results: No Product Key Detected RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have recently received the above error when attempting to update Office Basic Edition 2003. I'm not sure what the problem is.

The Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool returned the following report. Following the recommendations I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office with the same results. Any insight and assistance will be greatly appreciated!

  • Beth,

You are still receiving an error status 104 which is an unknown PID error. This could be attributed to remnants were left behind after attempting to uninstall the non-genuine version of Office 2003 Enterprise. I would like to provide available options we have for assisting customers to address issues they are currently experiencing.  The link here references Knowledge Base (KB) article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301This will allow you to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and provides detailed information on its use. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and uninstall all Microsoft Office programs 2003 and below (NOT 2007 OFFICE) on your computer, then reinstall Microsoft Office using the genuine MS Office installation CD and product key.

Restart your computer and try validating Office again at http://www.microsoft.com/genuine and clicking the “Validate Office” button. .  If validation is still failing please follow the steps below:

    1) Logon to the PC that is experiencing the notifications as a user with “ADMINISTRATOR” privileges.
    2) Download the tool:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012  click RUN.
    3) When the tool loads, click “CONTINUE”.
    4) Is the “RESOLVE” button available? If so, please click “RESOLVE” to allow the diagnostic tool repair the issue.
    5) From the Windows tab, click the COPY button.
    6) Please reply back to this post and PASTE the entire results into reply of this post.

If you need further assistance please re-post here.

Take care and have a great weekend :-)

  •  Hello Bcursio,

It appears your Microsoft Office Suite is showing as non-genuine.  Is the Office Suite a trial version which came pre-installed with your system?  Have you installed a trial version of Office Ultimate 2007 or do you have another version of Microsoft Office installed?  You are receiving an error status 104 which is an unknown PID. This could be attributed to a Beta/Trial version of Office or a non-genuine version of Office you previously installed and used. In turn maybe some of the remnants were left behind during the removal process. This may have caused the false positive error code 104.  Please use the Office disk and uninstall the software.  The Microsoft Office in question may need reinstallation and then uninstall using the disk.  Once you have completed the above steps let’s try validating Office again at http://www.microsoft.com/genuine and clicking the “Validate Office” button. Please touch back and let us know if you have a beta/trial version of Office..  After you have completed the Office removal process and validation is still failing please follow the steps below:

    1) Logon to the PC that is experiencing the notifications as a user with “ADMINISTRATOR” privileges.
    2) Download the tool:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012   click RUN.
    3) When the tool loads, click “CONTINUE”.
    4) Is the “RESOLVE” button available? If so, please click “RESOLVE” to allow the diagnostic tool repair the issue.
    5) From the Windows tab, click the COPY button.
    6) Please reply back to this post and PASTE the entire results into reply of this post.
We can take a look at it and offer you some suggestions as to how to resolve this issue.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Stephen,

Sorry it has taken me so long to post back - I was in the middle of ending the fiscal year for our company. I had previously had an Office Professional Enterprise 2003 installed that I discovered was not genuine. I had uninstalled it (not using the disk) when I found out it wasn't genuine and reverted back to my Office Basic Edition 2003, which was purchased with the computer and is genuine. I have not installed and trial or beta software.

Following your suggestions, I reinstalled the non-genuine Professional Enterprise Edition and uninstalled it using the disk. I also uninstalled the Basic Edition using the disk and then reinstalled it.

I ran the diagnostic tool and the below is my results. "RESOLVE" is not available to me as an option.
