Outlook client can not connect to server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm having an offline user, that suddenly can't connect to the server nor his local database. He was installed for a week ago, and worked ok for some time, but then he suddenly started to get the error message "There is a problem communicating with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server. The server might be unavailable. Try again later. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator".
This message pops up from time to time and there user can't use CRM. I tried various things, but to no avail.
I turned on the trace and one of the messages I see in the trace file is :

    [2010-02-22 17:22:06.8] Process:OUTLOOK |Organization:f328b8e3-433a-4e03-b1ff-f10125564c26 |Thread:    8 |Category: Application.Outlook |User: 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 |Level: Error | OutlookUtility.TraceReportException

       at Microsoft.Crm.Application.SMWrappers.UserSetting.Microsoft.Crm.Application.SMWrappers.IUserSetting.RetrieveItemSyncSetting(String entityName)

This seems to appear again and again.
I have then tried to run Diagnostics which didn't reported anything usefull. I have then tried to re-configure the user but that doesn't make any difference. I still get the same errors.

When the user connects through the web client, there are no problems, so it doesn't looks like a problem with his user settings as such.

I'm starting to get a little bit lost here, so does any of you have any ideas of what to look for?

  • Hi,

I already tries a full re-install, but that didn't made any difference.

Meanwhile, I have opened a case with Microsoft support and it seems to be a known bug in the client software. The problem seems to be related to a dublicate culture which the CRM client isn't able to handle. I haven't checked my self, but aparently there should be some NLP files under C:\windows\Globalization and when removing them the problem should be solved. Those files might be used by other programs though, so removing them might cause other programs to fail.

I doesn't know anything about those Cultures/NLP files, and I haven't got this folder on my laptop, so I can't be more specific in what to look for.

Accoring to MS, this issue should be solved in UR10 which should be due in late April

  • Does the CRM server and user machines have the latest Updates - Update Rollup 9?  If not, please apply, reboot machines and see if that helps.

You can also  have a look at this KB and see if it helps http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949092

  • Hi Donna,

We are on RollUp 8 on both server and clients. I haven't tried RU9 on the client yet, and honestly I doubt it will make any difference. The client have worked fine for almost a week, and then all of a sudden he get's this error. I'd be surprised if that would be solved by applying RollUp 9.

Also, the link you sent doesn't seems to apply to my situation, because it seems to solve a problem duing the install on the server which isn't the case.

I might try to install RU9 just for the test, but otherwise I think I'm trying to do a reinstall of the client.

    Thanks

  • When the user can connection via web client, It suggest the user account seems to be fine.

I assume you have problem with the client PC.
Check the firewall first, just check if it blocking any traffic.
If nothing appare in the firewall, you can try re-install the outlook client.
remember to un-install the old client first.

  • Hi,

I found something new about this. The problem occurs after installing RU7. If I remove and then reinstall the Outlookclient everything works with RU6. After installing RU7 the problem comes again. I don't have a glue why.
